The primary selection for this post will be held on August 20th.
-Could you tell us what your duties would be if elected?
This office has different roles. This position will handle taxes and fees. For example, if you need something like a driver’s license, an occupational license for your business, property taxes, or a gun license. A county tax collector in Florida has a range of powers and responsibilities related to revenue collection, financial management, and customer service. Together, we will work to improve our services and simplify the bureaucracy in the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office
-There is confusion. People might think they need to pay a different office
It’s not that you will need to pay for a different office. Everything will be like it is today. It’s confusing but here we are to explain. A county tax collector in Florida has authority and discretion within the scope of their duties to ensure the effective administration of tax collection and related services for the benefit of the community.
-In other words, the service offices, like the driver’s license division or the property appraiser, will take our payments and they will hand it to your office. You will be collecting and processing the payments from different service offices
Yes. We’re going to work with those offices, collect the payments, and speed up the process. We want to implement better technology to reduce the time and process. It’s insane that, right now, people in Miami-Dade County need to go to Broward or Monroe County to get their driver’s license or their ID because it takes longer to process in Miami-Dade. For example, we can create a van service, and that van can go to different locations to provide the service to the residents over there. A lot of residents that live in certain areas don’t drive, but they need to obtain the driver’s license, they need to obtain their ID, their passports. So, we want to bring the office to the people.
-And one of your priorities, as you mentioned, will be to bring service to the people.
My priority is my community. It’s about trying to communicate in both ways from my community to the office and to my office from my community. We want to help people. We are not here to create problems. We want to bring solutions. I want an office that work for every single person. When you have an issue with your business and you need to resolve any issue with your occupational license, we’re going to be there for you. We don’t want to create more bureaucracy. If you are a business owner and need a license, you don’t want to spend two or three months to get any license.
-Paying property taxes is a huge concern
If you have an issue with your property taxes payments, we want to help. A lot of people already paid their mortgage, but they need to continue to pay taxes on that property, and every year they receive a bill to pay at once. Sometimes they don’t have the money to pay. So, we want to work with the property tax office. They have different plans of payments, but I want to create more.

La selección primaria para este puesto se llevará a cabo el 20 de agosto.
– ¿Podría decirnos cuáles serían sus funciones en caso de ser elegido?
Esta oficina tiene diferentes roles. Este puesto se encargará de los impuestos y tasas por pagar. Por ejemplo, si necesita algo como una licencia de conducir, una licencia ocupacional para su negocio, impuestos a la propiedad o una licencia de armas. Un recaudador de impuestos del condado en Florida tiene una variedad de poderes y responsabilidades relacionados con la recaudación de ingresos, la gestión financiera y el servicio al cliente. Juntos, trabajaremos para mejorar nuestros servicios y simplificar la burocracia en la Oficina del Recaudador de Impuestos del Condado de Miami-Dade.
-Hay confusión. La gente podría pensar que necesitan pagar a una oficina diferente
No es que tengas que pagar a una oficina diferente. Todo será como es hoy. Es confuso, pero aquí estamos para explicarlo. Un recaudador de impuestos del condado en Florida tiene autoridad y discreción dentro del alcance de sus funciones para garantizar la administración eficaz de la recaudación de impuestos y los servicios relacionados en beneficio de la comunidad.
-Es decir, las oficinas de servicios, como la división de licencias de conducir o el tasador de propiedades, recibirán nuestros pagos y se los entregarán a su oficina para procesar las recaudaciones
Nosotros no estableceremos los montos a cobrar. De eso se ocupa el estado y en el caso del impuesto a la propiedad el tasador. Vamos a trabajar con esas oficinas, cobrar los pagos y acelerar el proceso. Queremos implementar mejores tecnologías para reducir el tiempo y el proceso. Es una locura que, en este momento, la gente en Miami-Dade tenga que ir a Broward o a Monroe para obtener su licencia de conducir o su identificación porque el proceso lleva más tiempo en Miami-Dade. Por ejemplo, podemos crear servicio en camionetas para ir a lugares y ofrecer el servicio. Muchos residentes que viven en determinadas zonas no conducen, pero necesitan obtener el permiso de conducir, necesitan obtener su documento de identidad, sus pasaportes. Por eso queremos acercar la oficina a la gente.
-Y una de sus prioridades, como menciona, será llevar el servicio al pueblo.
Mi prioridad es mi comunidad. Se trata de intentar comunicarnos en ambos sentidos, de la comunidad hacia la oficina y de la comunidad a la oficina. Queremos ayudar a la gente. No estamos aquí para crear problemas. Queremos aportar soluciones. Quiero una oficina que funcione para cada persona. Cuando tenga un problema con su negocio y necesite resolver cualquier problema con su licencia ocupacional, estaremos ahí para ayudarlo. No queremos crear más burocracia. Si es propietario de un negocio y necesita una licencia, no querrá pasar dos o tres meses para obtenerla.
-Pagar impuestos a la propiedad es una gran preocupación
Si tiene algún problema con los pagos de sus impuestos a la propiedad, queremos ayudarlo. Mucha gente ya pagó su hipoteca, pero necesitan seguir pagando impuestos sobre esa propiedad, y cada año reciben una factura que deben pagar de una vez. A veces no tienen dinero para pagar. Por eso queremos trabajar con la oficina de impuestos sobre la propiedad. Tienen diferentes planes de pagos, pero queremos crear más.
