On August 10, 2022, the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce hosted their monthly membership luncheon with guest speaker, Senator Rene Garcia. Taking place in the ballroom at the Miami Lakes Hotel, this was the largest luncheon they have hosted to date. Over 75 attendees, consisting of chamber members and other guests, all gathered to hear from Senator Rene Garcia. Upon arrival, guests registered and networked while waiting for the lunch to begin. As the lobby filled up with guests, the doors of the ballroom were opened, inviting everyone in. Attendees entered, found seats and got situated. The Miami Lakes Hotel staff served a full course lunch to all present. While lunch was being served and enjoyed, guests heard from the monthly luncheon member spotlight, immigration lawyer, Norma Lorenzo. As guests finished their meals, every member and guest had the chance to introduce themselves and give some information about their business to the room.
Shortly after all the guests introduced themselves, President Fred Senra introduced this month’s very special guest speaker, Rene Garcia. Rene Garcia began as a Councilman in the City of Hialeah over 20 years ago. Since then, he has served as a State Representative and later as a State Senator. In 2020, he was elected as County Commissioner for District 13. His main priority has always been helping those most in need and giving them a voice. He pushed for reforms in Florida’s mental health laws, sponsored legislation to end surprise medical bills after hospitalization. He also advocated for the importance of expanding children’s health care services through the Florida KidCare program.
Rene Garcia values the importance of balancing the economic progress of a community and the social needs of the people within that community. This is precisely what his presentation focused on. He spoke about changes he wants to see within the local communities and what he is doing to help. He also shared some important movements he has been a part of during his time serving. He expressed his appreciation for the Town of Miami Lakes and thanked the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce for having him. The Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their next membership luncheon on Wednesday, September 14 at the Miami Lakes Hotel with guest speaker Lazaro Solis, Miami-Dade County Deputy Property Appraiser.
