On June 12, 2024, the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon featuring Rosie Cordero-Stutz, a prominent candidate for the newly established position of Sheriff of Miami-Dade County. Residents will elect their first sheriff in over 50 years, making this a pivotal moment for local law enforcement. Rosie Cordero-Stutz, a veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department with over 28 years of service, captivated the audience with her vision for the future of law enforcement in the county. Her extensive experience and proven track record position her as a formidable candidate for the role of sheriff. She emphasized her commitment to ensuring safety and security, upholding law and order, eliminating public corruption, and supporting training and mental health initiatives.

Cordero-Stutz’s career in law enforcement began with uniform and road patrol duties, and she has since held numerous critical roles within the department. Her positions have included working in the General Investigations Unit, the Robbery Intervention Detail, the Homicide Bureau, and the Professional Compliance Bureau (Internal Affairs). She has also served in the Economic Crimes Bureau’s Mortgage Fraud Task Force, Media Relations, Personnel Management, and the Cyber Bureau. Currently, Cordero-Stutz is the Assistant Director of Investigative Services and chairs the Miami-Dade County Sheriff Internal Transition Team. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Marist College and a Master in Public Administration from Florida International University. She has further enhanced her leadership skills through programs such as the FBI National Academy, the FBI National Executive Institute for Leadership, and the Police Executive Leadership Institute.

During her speech, Cordero-Stutz outlined her priorities as sheriff, focusing on enhancing the safety and security of Miami-Dade residents. She stressed the importance of a strong, proactive approach to law enforcement, aiming to create a secure environment for all. Cordero-Stutz also highlighted the need for comprehensive support systems within the police force, particularly in the areas of mental health and personnel management. She believes that well-supported officers are crucial for effective law enforcement and public safety.

Cordero-Stutz’s candidacy has garnered significant support, including an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.

As Miami-Dade residents prepare to elect their first sheriff in decades, the importance of choosing a candidate with experience and integrity cannot be overstated.
