CAMACOL, the Latin Chamber of Commerce, prepares to distribute approximately 3,000 vouchers on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 8:00 am, to families in need during its 33 Annual Holiday Basket Distribution Food Drive. Vouchers will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis to those interested in receiving a basket at the CAMACOL Tower located at 1401 W. Flagler Street.Recipients will then be able to claim their holiday basket on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.“We are very grateful to the sponsors who have helped make this possible, to the volunteers that have donated their time and to the community that has helped keep this tradition alive,” said Mercy Saladrigas, president of CAMACOL. This year, as in previous years, the basket will be filled with a complete “Latin-styled” Holiday dinner including rice, beans, yuca, bread, soda, a pork shoulder, spices, sugar, milk, and other essential items. In addition to providing for those who are experiencing hardships this holiday season, the food drive also serves to unify the community as basket items come from donations provided by different sponsors, including “We are proud to serve our community and help those in need during the upcoming holiday season,” said Holiday Basket Distribution Food Drive Chairman Mario Gutierrez. “This drive is important to the community, and we are happy to be able to continue this tradition of helping our neighbors.”
