In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, City of Miami Commissioner Ralph “Rafael” Rosado  announced a groundbreaking initiative: the development of the City of Miami’s first fully ADA-compliant, autism-focused sensory park, to be located at 235 NW 26th Avenue, Miami, FL 33125.

This project represents a major step forward in expanding access to inclusive, community-centered spaces for residents of all abilities.

Designed to be fully accessible, the park will include wheelchair-friendly pathways, adaptive play equipment, and thoughtfully designed layouts that prioritize clear sightlines and safe navigation for caregivers and families.

The space will incorporate multi-sensory elements such as textures, colors, sound features, and movement-based play, along with quiet zones and structured environments that support individuals with autism and other sensory-related needs.

The announcement took place at Miami City Hall and brought together community leaders, advocates, educators, and organizations committed to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families.

Participating organizations include Autism Speaks, The Miami Foundation, S.T.A.R.S., Spectrum Family, Easter Seals South Florida, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and Miami-Dade County.
