Community Leader Commits to Strengthening the Bond Between Homestead Air Reserve Base and South Florida
Karin Mas was officially inducted as the Honorary Commander of the 482d Fighter Wing at Homestead Air Reserve Base, accepting one of the Air Force Reserve’s highest civilian leadership appointments.
The Honorary Commander Program recognizes respected community leaders who have demonstrated outstanding support for the United States Armed Forces while strengthening partnerships between military leadership and the communities they serve.
Surrounded by military leaders, elected officials, business executives, first responders, family, and friends, Mas accepted the honor with humility, emphasizing that the recognition belongs to the Airmen and their families.
“Today is not about me,” Mas said during his remarks. “It is about the incredible men and women of the 482d Fighter Wing, the mission they carry out every day, and the sacrifices made not only by them, but by the families who stand beside them.”
Mas reflected on the relationships he has built through organizations including U.S. Southern Command, Special Operations Command South, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, and Homestead Air Reserve Base, noting that many of those he has served alongside have become family.
As Honorary Commander, Mas pledged to strengthen the relationship between Homestead Air Reserve Base and the South Florida community while advocating for service members, veterans, and military families.
One of his first initiatives will be Military Appreciation Day at the Park, scheduled for July 10, 2026. Organized through a partnership between The Vault Foundation, the Pig Roast Command, the South Dade Chamber of Commerce, and the Miami Marlins, the event will provide complimentary tickets for military members and their families as a way to recognize their service.
During the ceremony, Mas encouraged businesses, organizations, and residents to support the military beyond words of appreciation.
“The strength of our military community is not solely the responsibility of those who wear the uniform. It is also the responsibility of those of us who enjoy the freedoms they defend every day.”
The ceremony also included several distinguished recognitions honoring Mas’s years of community service.
On behalf of Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levine Cava, Chief Arnold Palmer presented Mas with an official Miami-Dade County Proclamation recognizing his leadership and commitment to public service.
The Pig Roast Command also presented Mas with a Certificate of Recognition for his continued dedication to supporting military members, veterans, first responders, and communities throughout South Florida and beyond.
The event brought together an impressive group of military, civic, and community leaders, including representatives from the offices of U.S. Senator Rick Scott and Congressman Carlos A. Giménez; State Representative Omar Blanco; Miami-Dade Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez; Florida City Mayor Charlotte Thompson; South Florida Police Benevolent Association President Steadman Stahl, Vice President David Greenwell, Executive Board Members Alex Muñoz and Karlos Ramos; members of the Pig Roast Command; the leadership and Board of Directors of the South Dade Chamber of Commerce; Ron Magill representing Zoo Miami; military leaders from across Homestead Air Reserve Base; and numerous community partners, family members, and friends.
Mas also thanked his family, The Vault Foundation, the Pig Roast Command, and the many volunteers and partners who have worked alongside him to serve veterans, military members, first responders, and communities impacted by natural disasters throughout Florida and across the United States.
One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony came as Mas addressed the Airmen of the 482d Fighter Wing directly.
“I want each of you to know that your sacrifices matter. Your service matters. The long hours, the deployments, the missed holidays, the time away from loved ones, and the commitment you make to something greater than yourselves does not go unnoticed.
You are seen.
You are appreciated.
You are loved.”
Mas concluded by thanking 482d Fighter Wing Commander Colonel Brandon Kelly for the opportunity to serve.
“Colonel Kelly, thank you for the trust and confidence you have placed in me. I promise to represent this wing with pride, strengthen the connection between this base and our community, and do my part to support the men and women who serve here.
With great humility and enthusiasm, I report for duty and stand ready to receive my mission orders.”
The ceremony marked more than an honorary appointment, it symbolized a strengthened partnership between Homestead Air Reserve Base and the South Florida community. Under the leadership of Colonel Brandon Kelly and the dedicated men and women of the 482d Fighter Wing, the installation continues to demonstrate excellence in readiness, service, and community engagement.
Mas affirmed that his appointment is not simply a title but a commitment to service and to ensuring that military members and their families remain supported, appreciated, and connected to the community they protect.

Líder Comunitario Reafirma su Compromiso de Fortalecer el Vínculo entre la Base Aérea de Reserva de Homestead y el Sur de la Florida
Karin Más fue investido oficialmente como Comandante Honorario del Ala de Caza 482 (482 Fighter Wing) en la Base Aérea de Reserva de Homestead, al asumir uno de los más altos nombramientos de liderazgo civil otorgados por la Reserva de la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos.
El Programa de Comandantes Honorarios reconoce a distinguidos líderes comunitarios que han demostrado un apoyo excepcional a las Fuerzas Armadas de los Estados Unidos, fortaleciendo al mismo tiempo la relación entre el liderazgo militar y las comunidades a las que sirven.
Rodeado de líderes militares, funcionarios electos, empresarios, socorristas, familiares y amigos, Más recibió el nombramiento con humildad, destacando que este reconocimiento pertenece realmente a los aviadores militares y a sus familias.
“Hoy no se trata de mí”, expresó Más durante su discurso. “Se trata de los increíbles hombres y mujeres del Ala de Caza 482, de la misión que cumplen cada día y de los sacrificios que realizan, no solo ellos, sino también las familias que los acompañan en cada paso del camino.”
Más recordó las relaciones que ha forjado a lo largo de los años con organizaciones como el Comando Sur de los Estados Unidos (SOUTHCOM), el Comando de Operaciones Especiales Sur (SOCSOUTH), Operaciones Aéreas y Marítimas de la Oficina de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza de los Estados Unidos (CBP Air and Marine Operations) y la Base Aérea de Reserva de Homestead, señalando que muchas de las personas con las que ha servido se han convertido en una verdadera familia.
Como Comandante Honorario, Más se comprometió a fortalecer aún más la relación entre la Base Aérea de Reserva de Homestead y la comunidad del Sur de la Florida, al tiempo que continuará defendiendo los intereses de los miembros del servicio militar, los veteranos y sus familias.

Más concluyó agradeciendo al comandante del Ala de Caza 482, Coronel Brandon Kelly, por la confianza depositada en él.
“Coronel Kelly, gracias por la confianza que ha puesto en mí. Prometo representar a esta ala con orgullo, fortalecer el vínculo entre esta base y nuestra comunidad y hacer todo lo posible para apoyar a los hombres y mujeres que sirven aquí.
Con gran humildad y entusiasmo, me presento al servicio y quedó listo para recibir mis órdenes de misión.”
La ceremonia representó mucho más que un nombramiento honorario; simbolizó el fortalecimiento de la alianza entre la Base Aérea de Reserva de Homestead y la comunidad del Sur de la Florida. Bajo el liderazgo del Coronel Brandon Kelly y de los dedicados hombres y mujeres del Ala de Caza 482, la instalación continúa demostrando excelencia en preparación, servicio y participación comunitaria.
