On Wednesday, July 13 the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce hosted their monthly membership luncheon. Chamber members and guests gathered in the Kings Cup meeting room, located on the second floor of the Miami Lakes Hotel. Over fifty professional guests were in attendance and ready to hear from guest speaker, nutritionist Sabrina Hernandez-Cano. As guests arrived and registered, they enjoyed samples of beer from Chamber member and luncheon spotlight, The Tank Brewing Co. In accordance with the healthy twist on Wednesday’s luncheon, The Tank brought their new low calorie tropical blonde ale, Lo-Ca, which was a hit among the guests! After enjoying free beer sampling and networking, members and their guests took their seats. The Miami Lakes Hotel provided a delicious full course lunch to all in attendance. Each member and guest then had the opportunity to introduce themselves and share their business to all in attendance before guest speaker, dietician and nutritionist Sabrina Hernandez-Cano began her presentation.
President Fred Senra introduced guest speaker, Sabrina Hernandez-Cano and she began her presentation centered on developing healthy habits for business owners and their employees over the summer. Sabrina is a registered and licensed dietitian, certified diabetes educator and nutrition counselor who graduated from Florida International University with a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. She opened her presentation by sharing some heartfelt stories about her childhood that led her to where she is today. She shared that as a child, she was overweight and did not have a very healthy relationship with food but as she grew older and learned the importance of mindful eating and being connected to your body, she began to lose weight and fix this relationship. She initially dreamt of working in the fashion industry and even obtained a degree in fashion merchandising and worked with famous designers in Washington D.C., but soon realized her true passion was nutrition. Sabrina went back to school for dietetics and nutrition. Since then, she has worked to share her knowledge and help change people’s lives.
Sabrina’s presentation was focused on emphasizing the importance of nourishing your mind and body with the right things. She offered helpful tips as the guests listened, with many even taking notes attentively. She encouraged all those present to start taking the proper steps to creating a long, healthy life for themselves and their employees. The Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their next membership luncheon on Wednesday, August 10 at the Miami Lakes Hotel with guest speaker Senator Rene Garcia.
