The City of Hialeah kicked off the grand opening of their “Honoring the Woman” collective art exhibition and night market on the evening of Friday, March 18th, 2022 at the Milander Center for Arts & Entertainment. The exhibition by women, celebrating women will be available to visit until Friday, April 22nd, 2022. With various styles of art being represented, cubism, pop-art, surrealism and more, “Honoring the Woman: A Collective Art Exhibition by Women” is a collection to visit! Artist Liz Nevado participated in the exhibition with a figurative self-portrait executed in the style of pop-art, utilizing techniques such as collage and acrylic painting. To her, the celebration of International Women’s Month is very important. Liz Nevado went on to share her joy in the progress that women have made in society, mentioning the various women with talent and drive.
Launching during International Women’s Month, this exhibition was not only a celebration of women artists within the community, but the acknowledgement of the struggles women face every day in society. The pieces touching base on various topics such as female-empowerment, the beauty industry, the societal pressures that women face, and the success of women – the City of Hialeah truly aided in the fostering of a larger conversation within our community. In conjunction, local Hialeah Artist Crystal Garcia states, “International Women’s Month is a great time to make people aware of the achievements of women”. This is nowhere near her last event of the season for her artwork will also be featured in Gone MIA’s “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow” exhibition at the Unbranded Brewing Co from April 22nd-24th, 2022. Also displaying work at the “Honoring the Woman” event was Artist MJ Pop, showcasing two pieces – both executed in the style of pop-art. MJ represented iconic symbols in her work one being a Wonder Woman-esque figure, as well as the very well-known Marilyn Monroe. Through her art, MJ communicates “el futuro es femenino” (Spanish for: the future is feminine). As an epicenter of Latinx culture within Miami-Dade County, it is only fitting that they host such a pivotal event.
Providing local women artists with a platform to showcase their work, the artists were able to relay the messages they feel are important surrounding the experiences of women. Artist Manena Elvira mentioned that the work she is displaying was created in honor of women. One of the pieces she was showcasing is titled “Tierra” (Spanish for: land or earth). The piece depicts a woman standing confidently with one foot planted on top of the earth, visibly conquering the world. After being asked about her piece, she goes on to highlight and uplift the 73 other artists displaying their work in the exhibition – urging everyone to visit and support the cause. “Honoring the Woman: A Collective Art Exhibition by Women” will be available to visit until Friday, April 22nd, 2022.
La Ciudad de Hialeah Celebra el Mes Internacional de la Mujer a través de “Honrando a la Mujer: Una Exposición de Arte Colectiva de Mujeres”
La ciudad de Hialeah dio inicio a la gran inauguración de su exposición de arte colectiva y mercado nocturno «Honoring the Woman» en la noche del viernes 18 de marzo de 2022 en el Milander Center for Arts & Entertainment. La exposición de mujeres, celebrando a las mujeres, estará disponible para visitar hasta el viernes 22 de abril de 2022. Con varios estilos de arte representados, cubismo, pop-art, surrealismo y más, “Honoring the Woman: A Collective Art Exhibition by Women” es una colección para visitar! La artista Liz Nevado participó en la exposición con un autorretrato figurativo ejecutado al estilo del pop-art, utilizando técnicas como el collage y la pintura acrílica. Para ella es muy importante la celebración del Mes Internacional de la Mujer. Liz Nevado continuó compartiendo su alegría por el progreso que ha tenido la mujer en la sociedad, mencionando a las diversas mujeres con talento y empuje.
Lanzada durante el Mes Internacional de la Mujer, esta exposición no solo fue una celebración de las mujeres artistas dentro de la comunidad, sino también el reconocimiento de las luchas que enfrentan las mujeres todos los días en la sociedad. Las piezas se basan en varios temas, como el empoderamiento femenino, la industria de la belleza, las presiones sociales que enfrentan las mujeres y el éxito de las mujeres: la ciudad de Hialeah realmente ayudó a fomentar una conversación más amplia dentro de nuestra comunidad. En conjunto, la artista local de Hialeah, Crystal García, afirma: “El Mes Internacional de la Mujer es un buen momento para que las personas tomen conciencia de los logros de las mujeres”. Este no está ni cerca de su último evento de la temporada, ya que su obra de arte también se presentará en la exposición «Here Today, Gone Tomorrow» de Gone MIA en Unbranded Brewing Co del 22 al 24 de abril de 2022. Al proporcionar a las mujeres artistas locales una plataforma para exhibir su trabajo, las artistas pudieron transmitir los mensajes que consideran importantes en torno a las experiencias de las mujeres.
