In celebration of Earth Day this year, the Gone MIA collective hosted a pop-up art gallery at Unbranded Brewing Co. titled “Here Today Gone Tomorrow”. The event was imagined and executed all by members of the Hialeah community. With art displayed by various artists, the goal of this show was not only to provide a platform for Hialeah creatives – but to bring civic engagement and social consciousness to the environmental issues being faced by the City of Hialeah and beyond. Hialeah is a city with rich culture and flourishing creative talent. Gone MIA aims to amplify such powerful attributes of the city, in addition to returning progress to “La Ciudad Del Progreso” (The City of Progress). The “Here Today Gone Tomorrow” Pop-Up gallery was endorsed by key players within local government and the local art scene such as: Miami-Dade County, the Knight Foundation and Gulf South for a Green New Deal.
The grand opening of the gallery took place on Friday, April 22nd, 2022, beginning at 7PM. The evening was a cultural affair, with a live opening reception performance by IFE-ILE Afro-Cuban Dance Co. surrounded by the works of featured artists: Ahol Sniffs Glue, Carlos “Junk” Lainez, Crystal Garcia, Derick G, Elizabeth Morales, Enrique Zayas, Franky Cruz, Rei Ramirez.
The art show received great support from local residents and community members. Hialeah local, Melissa Hernandez stated “It was really great to see members of our community attending an art event, not in Wynwood – but within our neighborhood. The support of local artists from Hialeah with a show that is in Hialeah surrounding us with work that represents Hialeah is a big deal”. Artist Crystal Garcia displayed her collection titled “Hialeah Homes” tapping into the character and story of various houses and living spaces within her local community. In addition to her collection, she also displayed a painting of Hialeah City Hall – alluding to the potential future of the city if climate action is not taken soon. “Here Today Gone Tomorrow” was a prime example of the change that young community members are pushing for today in their beloved city. This is not the last that we will be seeing of the Gone MIA collective, for they are a budding organization ready to make change within their communities.
La ciudad de Hialeah da la bienvenida a Gone MIA y su galería de arte emergente «Here Today Gone Tomorrow» en Unbranded Brewing Co.

En celebración del Día de la Tierra este año, el colectivo Gone MIA organizó una galería de arte emergente en Unbranded Brewing Co. titulada «Here Today Gone Tomorrow». El evento fue imaginado y ejecutado por miembros de la comunidad de Hialeah. Con el arte exhibido por varios artistas, el objetivo de este espectáculo no era solo proporcionar una plataforma para los creativos de Hialeah, sino también llevar el compromiso cívico y la conciencia social a los problemas ambientales que enfrenta la ciudad de Hialeah y más allá. Hialeah es una ciudad con una rica cultura y un floreciente talento creativo. Gone MIA tiene como objetivo amplificar atributos tan poderosos de la ciudad, además de devolver el progreso a “The City of Progress” (La Ciudad del Progreso). La galería emergente «Here Today Gone Tomorrow» recibió el respaldo de actores clave dentro del gobierno local y la escena artística local, como: el condado de Miami-Dade, la Fundación Knight y Gulf South for a Green New Deal.
La gran inauguración de la galería tuvo lugar el viernes 22 de abril de 2022. La velada fue un asunto cultural, con una recepción de apertura en vivo a cargo de IFE-ILE Afro-Cuban Dance Co. rodeada de las obras de los artistas destacados: Ahol Sniffs Glue, Carlos “Junk” Lainez, Crystal Garcia, Derick G, Elizabeth Morales, Enrique Zayas, Franky Cruz, Rei Ramírez.
La muestra de arte recibió un gran apoyo de los residentes locales y miembros de la comunidad. Melissa Hernandez, residente de Hialeah, declaró: “Fue realmente grandioso ver a los miembros de nuestra comunidad asistir a un evento de arte, no en Wynwood, sino en nuestro vecindario. El apoyo de los artistas locales de Hialeah con un espectáculo que está en Hialeah rodeándonos de obras que representan a Hialeah es un gran problema”. La artista Crystal García exhibió su colección titulada «Hialeah Homes» aprovechando el carácter y la historia de varias casas y espacios habitables dentro de su comunidad local. Además de su colección, también exhibió una pintura del Ayuntamiento de Hialeah, en alusión al futuro potencial de la ciudad si no se toman medidas climáticas pronto. “Here Today Gone Tomorrow” fue un excelente ejemplo del cambio que los jóvenes miembros de la comunidad están impulsando hoy en su amada ciudad. Esto no es lo último que veremos del colectivo Gone MIA, ya que son una organización en ciernes lista para hacer cambios dentro de sus comunidades.
