On Wednesday, May 11th, the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce hosted their monthly membership luncheon at the Miami Lakes Hotel with guest speaker Annette Hungler from Florida International University, whose presentation focused on the importance of healthcare within businesses and the greater community and what FIU’s new program is doing to address this head-on. With a great turnout of over 50 guests consisting of many business owners and “movers and shakers” in the Miami Lakes community, this was yet another successful luncheon! Upon arrival, attendees mingled in the lobby of the ballroom with fellow businesspeople from the community and built valuable connections. Outside of the venue, attendees enjoyed delicious coffee from traditional “cafecitos” to refreshing cold brews provided by Cienfuegos Coffee, a Cuban-American inspired specialty coffee trailer.
As Chamber members and other guests entered the ballroom, they found themselves to their seats and settled in to a full course lunch offered by the Miami Lakes Hotel. During this time, each attendee was given the opportunity to introduce themselves and their business to every member and guest in the ballroom. Afterwards, President Fred Senra introduced the guest speaker, Annette Hungler of the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Hungler acts as a program manager for the FIU Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP (Health Education Learning Program), a portion of the College of Medicine. This program assigns teams of medical students and outreach workers to different households in order to assist them in improving their health and quality of life. During her presentation, Hungler discussed the impact this program has had on the greater Miami and Miami Lakes community and addressed certain concerns that could affect local communities that Chamber members and business owners should be aware of in order to promote a healthier while being affordable workplace environment.
This month’s Chamber Member Luncheon Spotlight was Steve Brimo of BankUnited. As the Luncheon Spotlight, Mr. Brimo was given the opportunity to present his business to the attendees. Brimo touched on BankUnited’s long history in Miami Lakes and how they provide local residents with a wide range of banking products and services. Brimo spoke about the company and all the benefits they offer for their users. He emphasized the benefits of parents opening a savings account for their children exclusively for saving towards college. To close the luncheon, President Fred Senra congratulated and introduced the newest members of the Young Professionals Committee: Natalee Lima of Hemisphere Title, Joaquin Medina of Apollo Bank, Ray Palacios of First Origin Mortgage Lenders, and Jerry Menendez of TD Bank. The Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their next membership luncheon on Wednesday, June 8th at the Miami Lakes Hotel Ballroom with guest speaker Christopher Norwood, founder and executive director of the Florida Association of Independent Public Schools and Principal Consultant at The Norwood Consulting Group.
