Management at Catholic Hospice announced the re-opening of the Inpatient Care Center at Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale after a four-bed expansion and renovation of the Unit.  The Inpatient Center originally opened in 2013 with a 10-bed unit. The expansion is credited to the successful partnership with Holy Cross Health, the high quality of care and services provided and increased demand for hospital-based hospice care. In addition to the carefully appointed private patient rooms, the updated unit will include private spaces for families to gather, a quiet prayer or mediation room, accommodations for family meals, pet visits and opportunities for patients to enjoy therapeutic virtual reality experiences.

A blessing of the Inpatient Care Center was provided by The Most Reverend Enrique E. Delgado, Auxiliary Bishop of Miami, and members of the leadership teams from both entities and local dignitaries were present at a private ribbon cutting to commemorate the re-opening on June 29th.  “Since the opening of the Inpatient Care Center at Holy Cross eight years ago, Catholic Hospice has provided end of life care to hundreds of patients.  Providing care and comfort at the most vulnerable time in a person’s life with the utmost of professionalism and compassion is the essence of our Mission.

We are pleased to come together again as we expand this important service to meet the growing needs of the community» shared Joseph Catania, President and CEO, Catholic Health Services.  Catholic Hospice also has an Inpatient Care Center at St. Catherine’s West Rehabilitation Center in Hialeah Garden’s with a 13-bed unit and at St. Anne’s Nursing Center in Miami, with an 8-bed unit.

“I look forward to working with the dedicated team of professionals who share the mission of providing quality end of life care to patients and their families.  We are pleased to continue our partnership in healthcare excellence at Holy Cross Health.  The inpatient care center will focus on providing compassionate end of life care in a homelike environment and support the goals and expectations of patients and families,” shared Dian Backoff, Executive Director of Catholic Hospice.

Mark Doyle, President and CEO of Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale shared, “As a mission-driven innovative health organization, Catholic Hospice shares similar values to ours at Holy Cross.
